Thinner For Washes

2006-3-26

A thinner or solvent is used to great effect as a medium for washes in weathering a model. Specifically, it's application is with oil or enamel colours, or alternatively with powder pigments, to disperse colour into crevices, cracks and around detail on a model.

This example from MiG Productions is model specific, claiming to be purer than regular white spirit, however I can't confirm this. Personally, I think that artist quality white spirit will be just as good and a little cheaper.

Usual precautions for using solvent products should be observed, work in a well ventillated area and avoid inhaling fumes.
