Russ Sharp's Italieri ZIS-5 Vignette

2002-10-8

Russ Sharp: International man of mystery and daring-do? OK, not quite. He is, however, a truly accomplished model maker and a regular contributor to Total Model. The quality of his work is such that he's often the recipient of awards and commendations in his native Canada. Much of his most recent work can be viewed in User Gallery.

His latest masterpiece is this vignette.

Russ describes the work in his own words:

The kit is the Italeri Zis-5 Russian truck, built straight from the box with minor alterations to the windows, doors and engine hood. Painted using Tamiya and Craft paints, with several liberal coats of black and brown mixed washes, then drybrushed and weathered with pastels. Russian Army markings are as supplied and the figure is from Tamiya. Overall the fit was good and it was a very eye-pleasing kit to finish. A very good and necessary addition to Russian Front dioramas!

Observant readers will note that Russ didn't once mention the word airbrush. Russ paints all his models entirely by hand, armed only with a brush and a pocket-full of know-how! You can see more of his work in his own section of the User Gallery which you can find here...
