Sculpting tools

2004-7-11

If you use epoxy putty for modelling conversions to miniatures, filling gaps, or even making figures from scratch then some sort of sculpting tool will be incredibly useful.

There are no right or wrong tools for the job, professional sculptors use all sorts from dental tools to the humble toothpick!

The picture ilustrates some of my own tools:
top - No.5 Wax carver
middle - croche needle (procurred from my grandmother's knitting box)
bottom - my first homemade tools; stainless steel pins bent to shapes and glued into dowel handles.
These were made about 14 years ago and have seen extensive service.

Tip: old paintbrushes that are too far gone to use for even drybrushing can still be useful. Carefully cut any ragged bristles off and drill out the ferrule, then glue homemade tips into the handles similar to these.
