DBA is a small book packed with info, inside you get full playing rules, campaign rules, campaign scenarios, big battle rules (triple sized armies, Giant battle rules and over 500 official army lists.

DBA plays with 12 element (an element is a base with from 2 to four figures on) armies on each side, play is balanced by each element type having different properties - knights are fast and hard but break easily, skirmishers rule the rough but will be cut down in the open by mounted, etc.

Troops are described by general type, blades, spears, bows etc. and avoid any complicated armour/weapon/training/speed/regularity recipes. Combat results are simple - recoil, no effect or destroyed - no book keeping is needed. Morale and casualties are all taken care of by the game mechanics and don't need to be calculated.

Armies can be fielded needing only 24 figures and the game can be played in 2, 6, 10, 15, 20 and 25mm.
DBA has an active online community and a healthy competition scene, especially in the USA.

Games take about 45 minutes, but can be over in five or last as long as one and a half hours. Victory is decided by the destruction/routing of a third of you opponents forces.

There are rules for terrain placement and the board is only 24 inches square for the 15mm game, so it fits on the dining room table easily.

DBA is fast, fun and easy to learn, although the rules are written in a very concise, note type form. The best way to learn is to play someone who knows how it works and then go get yourself a copy and study the army lists until you find one you like. With over 500 historical armies to chose from you're bound to find one that suits you
