Metcalfe Models produce a series ofcard model buildings in "N" and "00" gauge. Several of the buildings are specifically for railway layouts but the remainder would fit into any diorama of the correct scale.
Printed in full colour (no painting required) on stout card (giving a very robust finished model) this kit makes up into a highly realistic and detailed building.
The kit comes in pre-cut cards with good instructions. The only extras required to begin construction are a sharp modelling knife, straight edge and glue.
The model is well thought out with many fine features eg: A choice of curtains that are cleverly set back from the windows. The street entrances lead into a small vestibule with a second inner door. Features which add realism to the model.
If you follow the instructions construction is straight forward, but in places you do wish you had a spare hand. The only difficulty with card models is that if you do not score the folds properly and accurately, joins have a habit of springing apart the minute you put the model down.
The only thing the kit lacks is guttering and down pipes to satisfy the real purist modeller.
If you are looking for quickly constructed, standard buildings to fill out your layout then this range is ideal. I have several buildings from the series on my layout and visitors are always very impressed.
The best feature is the price. At just under £6.00 almost half the price of the plastic version.
Highly recommened.
