This the third edition of the Trackstory series covers the Char B family and it's derivatives.
It starts with a short history of the tanks technical development and details the differences between the B1 & B1bis models. The organisation of the user units are then described with a breakdown of vehicle allocation, and their combat career. An interesting point is that some tanks were delivered minus turrets, perhaps using the logic that a tank with just a hull gun is better than no tank at all.
The next chapter is on German use and conversion of the Char B, and also its' use after recapture by Free French units till the end of the war. The post war ARL44 'Char de Transition' is illustrated in a few pages along with the mine roller equipped vehicle that used to live at Avrille, the Engineer School collection. (Anyone know where it went?)
Colour pages are used to illustrate camouflage patterns and explain the markings. Also in colour are the pages of colour side views covering French and German vehicles.
A very useful feature is a list of tank names and numbers, which will help model makers (When that elusive 1/35th kit comes out in plastic, 1/76th modellers already have several sources).
