I used to think Christmas was a time for taking it easy - for having another glass of wine or extra thick slice of pie. It appears I'm in the minority. No matter where I look I find people who are more than happy to crank up the stove an extra notch just so they can continue working long into the wee hours - festive season or not!
It seems figure painters are some of the worst offenders. Two artists worthy of a special mention are Alessio Cisbani and Michal Machowski of the Figurine Painters. The two men - along with Paolo Guion -
recently opened a new web portal as a vehicle to promote and sell their artwork. Over Christmas Alessio and Michal produced several fine pieces - most of which are on sale now. Michal produced this impressive "My Hero" mini diorama, made with the My Hero figure by Hasslefree Miniatures.
Michal didn't stop there. He went on to produce a dark and deadly Vindicare Assassin from Games Workshop's Warhammer 40k.
Meanwhile, Alessio put his skills to work on the 28mm miniature shown above. This is Triel - also produced by Hasslefree - a very special figure in more ways than one. Alessio has used it to demonstrate an almost perfect mastery of the NMM (non-metallic metal) technique, a process recently explored by Swedish figure painter Anja Wettergren, here.
Michal Machowski's Hero diorama is currently for sale on the Figurine Painter's website. Triel is also up for grabs, this time on eBay, but it is no ordinary auction. Alessio informs me that all the proceeds raised by the sale of the figure will be donated to the American Red Cross to aid the victims of the catastrophic Asian Tsunami. When you consider this, Triel's pose suddenly takes on an entirely new meaning. It is a just and worthy cause and one which I hope will draw a lot of attention.
