Special Forces
There are few people more well-known in figure painting circles than Kevin Dallimore. His work - like his reputation - seems to have been around for years. This is no small feat. Painting styles, like the wind, can change with the seasons. A technique that is universally employed one year can become almost passè the next. Kevin's very particular approach to figure painting has stood the test of time - and scrutiny - more so than many others. Indeed in some quarters it has become the industry standard.
Kevin's web site - Special Forces - provides a fitting testament to a canon of work which is both rich and diverse. His photographic record covers everything from ancients - through horse and musket - to Dr Who and anyone with even a passing interest in miniatures is certain to find it a valuable source of information.

Kevin tells us more in his own words...
My painting philosophy is that I view it as a technical process. I guess that comes partly from having no artistic talent and partly from working in a drawing office for ten years (and I ran Special Forces painting service full, time for 10 years). I do believe everybody can learn to paint to a high standard given enough time, patience and teaching.
I learnt much of my stuff from other people, combining and changing some techniques, directly copying others and making up a few of my own along the way. For me there is no substitute for practice. Study peoples work as much as you can, see what you like, see what suits your tastes, then have a go.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, I still do. I have been at this for 30 years man and boy and have still much to learn, and hopefully am still learning, thank gods. People who deserve a mention, as someone who I pinched an idea from include; the late Bill Brewer, Max Longhurst, John Treadaway, Steve Dean, Paul Baker, Dave Perry, Ian Stables, Andrew Taylor, Graham Green, Chris Steadman and Martin Buck.
You won’t find much chat on my site, but you will find access to nearly all my painting guides, and many, many pictures to have a look at, so please do.
Kevin
