Joachim Jochen Peiper - 1944
To many he was a courageous and inspirational commander, a man driven by an heroic zeal to do his duty and protect the men under his command. To others he represents the twisted heart of Hitler's Waffen-SS, a ruthless fanatic with the blood of over 100 dead prisoners on his hands. Either way, there's no denying that Joachim "Jochen" Peiper was a quite remarkable and dashing soldier. The young Obersturmbahnführer was given the task of spearheading the ill-fated Ardennes offensive, a daring counterattack designed to drive back the allied onslaught. What followed has become the stuff of legend. The defence of Bastogne, the Malmedy massacre, Skorzeny's commandos and the fuel depot at Stavelot have all contrived to ensure that the so called "Battle of the Bulge" remains one of the most famous episodes of WWII.
Andrea's new 1:10th scale bust captures Peiper's features extremely well. The determined stare and the cleft chin are unmistakable. The kit contains 3 white metal and resin components and retails for €36.00. A painted version is available for €185.00.
The Battle of Hastings
Also available this month is a huge 54mm scale diorama of the Battle of Hastings. The scene depicts a desperate encounter between a mounted Norman knight and two of King Harold's foot soldiers. One has already fallen and now seems certain to be crushed beneath the hooves of the Knight's horse. The kit contains 30 resin and white metal components and costs €76.65.
Ordralfabétix
The final arrival this month is the latest in the expanding line-up of officially licensed Asterix figures. This time it's the turn of Ordralfabétix - who is better known to British fans as Unhygienix. Ordralfabétix is the fishmonger in the Gaul village where every Roman fears to tread. He is shown in the act of wielding a dead fish which, we assume, he is about to introduce to some poor unfortunate Roman legionary! The 54mm figure kit contains 8 white metal parts and retails for €17.20.
