Hot on the heels of Issue 41/1 comes 41/2,which brings us neatly up to speed for the year so far.
The front cover has four photos of a Merkava at the Latrun Tank museum in Israel. Neil Whartons' editorial waxes lyrical on the perennial problem of small parts which launch themselves into space. What is the answer to this modelling vexation? Page three is given over to photos of a Marmon Herrington MkIV armoured car, also at Latrun.
This is followed on page four by a conversion article on the Australian M113A1 APC fitted with the 106mm recoilless rifle. This is based on the Academy 'Vietnam' M113 kit, but could be performed on many other kits and scales.
Page five sees the welcome return of Dick Harley with an article on the Italian Lancia 3RO N.Mil Truck and the Bartoletti trailer, to accompany the 1/76th drawings of the Lancia by Geoff Lacey, and the trailer by Dick.
The centre spread in this issue is a 1/35th scale drawing of the Belgian T. 13 Type II Light Tank by Hubert Cance. This was the tank destroyer version of the T13 mounting a 47mm anti-tank gun. If I remember correctly there is a surviving example at the Brussels Tank Museum, which was returned from Germany.
Another long standing member who contributes an article this time is Graham Maslin (who remembers the Maz Models M10 in white metal?). He describes his experiences when buying a radio controlled 1/16th scale Tiger 1 by Heng Long, with details of accuracy and improvements.
Starting on page 11 is an article on the Pandur Wheeled Armoured Vehicle from Austria. This covers both APC, IFV, Pandur II & Armoured Recon./Fire Support vehicle complete with 1/76th scale drawings and photographs, all you need to make models of these vehicles.
On Page 15 MAFVA Stalwart Mick bell gives us a five view 1/76th scale drawing of the Automitrailleuse Dodge. This is a semi-armoured desert patrol vehicle built by the French in Syria, and used most famously by The Foreign Legion in WW2. This is also another vehicle I have wanted to model for a very long time, since seeing photos in the old Pan Ballantine book on Bir Hacheim. (That was in the 1970's!)
The back cover features the Valentine Mks III & V drawn by John Church in 1/76th scale with many details added.
Yet again another excellent issue, well done Neil !
