Over the last 10 years there have been tremendous advancements in the design and production of what you might call "environmental materials" for model makers. For a while many companies concentrated their efforts on delivering a medium for representing realistic water. Today the market is almost (dare I say) awash with resins, varnishes and even waxes for almost every conceivable aquatic application! Perhaps that's why the focus of attention has now shifted as developers go in search of a new Holy Grail - snow!
Take a cursory look through any modeling magazine published in recent years and you will almost certainly see at least one or two dioramas covered in snow. From Napoleon's conquest of Russia to the wintry woodland of the Ardennes, model makers - it seems - have got a real taste for the white stuff! Some are prepared to use all sorts of concoctions to get the right effect and everything from baking powder to talcum powder have made an appearance. Now, thanks to Spanish company Nimix, there is a more proprietary product on the market.
Their new Artificial Snow comes ready prepared in a 100 gramme bag. It's easy to use and looks incredibly realistic - a fact to which the images above will testify. Better still, because the product is priced at only €5.10 per bag, you can simulate your own blizzard conditions relatively cheaply!
