Sloppy Jalopy

Sloppy Jalopy was formed last year with the aim of producing vehicles suitable for use with the WW1 and Interwar ranges of Copplestone, Brigade Games and Renegade. For this reason, with all these ranges being on the large side for 28mm, we chose 1/48th as the scale for the vehicles. Given that most of what we plannned also had a civilian use we also thought that the 1/48th scale would be good for a crossover into US O gauge.

Our first release was of 4 variants of the 1930 Ford AA truck. After much delay due to design problems we have now followed that up with 3 variants of the 1925 Crossley 19.6 car. All these are white metal kits and are available now. By the end of October we also plan to have at least 4 variants of the 1917 Thorneycroft J Type truck available and after that we will be releasing an Austin Armoured Car and a Citreon Kegresse.

Whilst our plan was to concentrate on the 1/48th interwar stuff, we were also approached by Mongrel Miniatures to ask if we would be able to do some AFVs to suport their range. As our aim is to match the vehicles to the figure range we got hold of some of the figures and with MM planned out what would be the best scale. The decision was made that the Cold War stuff would be made in 1/56th scale and that, due to the size of the vehciles, we would use resin rather than white metal.

We commissioned Tony Ashcroft of NZWM to complete the masters for us and he has produced a BMP1 and a BMP2 which are now available from both Sloppy Jalopy and from NZWM.

As far as SJ is concerned these form just the first vehicles in a planned range which will make use of a number of designers. Next up and planned for release at the end of October is an FV432 designed by Nigel Higgins. Nigel will then be producing a LWB Landrover, a Scorpion and a T55, all in 28mm resin.

It is only fair to point out that the 1/48th models do contain a fair few pieces and require some modeling ability to put together. The 1/56th resin vehicles however are very simple with only a few pieces and easy to construct.
