Mongrel Miniatures
Mongrel Miniatures is a new company started by Frank Hammond and Dave Woodward to produce miniatures, which they themselves like and which are not produced by other companies in 28mm scale.
Frank has been a painter/collector/gamer for thirty plus years and Dave is the proprietor of the renowned Ever Victorious Miniatures painting service. Both are members of the Newark Irregulars gaming club in England.
The range of figures will cover the "Cold War" from 1980 and represent as many nationalities as possible from this period. The first release will consist of six packs of Soviet Motor Rifles, released at the rate of two packs per month and thereafter every month should see a further release of two packs, hopefully on the 1st of each month.
The release schedule began on Sunday 8th February at Fantasy/Sci-Fi Partizan wargames show in Nottinghamshire, England.
Two more packs are already being cast and prepared for release, and the last two for the first phase of Soviet Motor Rifles are being prepared for production. For full details please visit our website at www.wargamesmongrel.org where there is a link to our Yahoo discussion group where we will welcome suggestions, ideas and information from anyone interested in, and in particular those who have experience or specialist knowledge of the worlds armed forces of this period.
We are fortunate to have the talented designer & owner of MoFo Miniatures on board and our figures are obviously 100% compatible with the MoFo ranges in size and stature.
Our 1980's Soviets are generic enough to face off against his 1990s US Rangers now, but we have other plans afoot concerning Mongrel Miniatures & MoFo Miniatures collaboration in the future, but that's for a later bulletin. . .
We have B.A.O.R. figures on the design bench as this goes to print and we hope to have a first release of these as a "Special" at Salute in April. We are in this for the long haul and intend to cover every significant participating country in the NATO and WARSAW PACT organisations to some degree, including Special Forces for all sides.
However, we know that to complete this marathon will take patience and we hope our customers will bear with us as we plod on at the rate of two packs a month, alternating from one side to the other, completing a series of packs for each nationality before moving on. We will also be revisiting packs we have done from time to time, to offer head variants to satisfy those who want all their troops in helmets, fur hats, berets etc.
Our friends at Sloppy Jalopy have plans to support our figures with occasional releases of APCs and other light vehicles, as well as their WWI and between the wars vehicles and the word is that the first of these will be several variants of the BTR60.
You can keep abreast of developments and new releases both here, on our website or our Yahoo newsgroup.
