To others he represents the twisted heart of Hitler's Waffen-SS, a ruthless fanatic with the blood of over 100 dead prisoners on his hands. Vercingetorix and the Warlords |

| In the year 52 BC, Gallic chieftain, Vercingetorix, led a revolt of the tribes of Gaul against Julius Caesar and the invading Roman forces. Despite early successes he was eventually cornered at the hilltop fortress of Alesia. After a siege lasting many weeks, the Gauls finally succumbed and their leader captured. Thus ended Gallic resistance. Vercingetorix was taken to Rome and left to rot in a pit for 5 years. He was eventually garroted in a ritual execution to honour the city's newly installed dictator, Julius Caesar. [more...] |

| There's another clutch of fabulous figurines on the way from Andrea this month. The first is a 54mm characterisation of the Norse God of Thunder, "Thor". This mighty hero is dressed in traditional Viking style, complete with furs, chainmail shirt and a winged helmet. He also brandishes his magical hammer, Mjolnir, which he uses to smite his enemies. | The start of the month usually heralds the arrival of the latest release schedule from Andrea Miniatures. It's always a pleasure and sometimes a thrill to see what the master craftsmen from Spain have in store for the month ahead - but even I was a little surprised when I saw the first item on the list. Called the "Passion" it depicts the most famous execution in history - the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The scene upon Golgotha is well known to us all. Jesus is shown pinned to the cross, turning an agonised face towards the heavens as the last murmurings of life finally ebb away. [more...] |
