A Change for the Better
Announcements
A little over two weeks ago the TotalModel.com website was attacked by hackers. This is not the first time the site has been targeted but this last episode was perhaps the most sinister. Although our ever-vigilant server hosts managed to intercept the attack before it could do any real damage, the incident raised questions about the security of the site. [more...]

Salute 2006 - Show Report
On Location
In April I donned my pack and headed off to London on my annual pilgrimage to Salute. This would be the fourth year in succession that I had visited the event. This time, however, I would not be making the familiar trek to Olympia where the show had been staged for very many years. The South London Warlords, who organise Salute, had decided that the old hall was just too small to cope with the scrum of people that attend each gathering. A new more spacious venue was required. That new venue was the ExCel Exhibition and Conference Centre on the banks of the River Thames. The only problem I faced was finding the place! [more...]

Sandown Model Symposium '06 - Show Report
On Location
Last week I trotted off to Sandown racecourse in the leaf-green London suburb of Esher to attend the annual Model Symposium. Unlike almost all the other shows I've visited, in which modellers strive for aesthetic realism in terms of form and finish, the Symposium concentrates solely on operation. There were hundreds of models on display, including aircraft, boats and all manner of land vehicles and all of them could be either flown, piloted or driven. There were even a few submarines on manoeuvres above and below the waves in a specially prepared pool outside. [more...]

John "Dragonet" Pilkington
Model Citizens
Whenever you take a cursosry dip into the totalmodels.co.uk User Gallery you can't help but notice the work of Dragonet - aka John Pilkington. His folio boasts some of the most evocative - certainly the most alluring - pieces ever to appear on this site. He has a taste for the fantastic and the fancy. His figure bases - in particular - demostrate a quite spectacular use of materials and often include sections of geodes and machine components. His canon of work is a must-see for everyone even remotely interested in fantasy and sci-fi genres or, come to that, figurine painting in general. It is why John Pilkington - aka Dragonet - is one of our Model Citizens. [more...]
